What is the name of the professional design softwear package for graphic and fashion students?

I want to buy a relation softwear that they were advised to get by their college for fashion design. A few years ago it was really, really expensive but has come down in price now. Is it photoshop, or something similar? help would be appreciated, or further recommendation.
